Hutchinson Engineering Limited in Widnes has successfully become part of the accredited supply chain to the Statoil Dudgeon OWF.
Hutchinson are supplying 67 sets of internal and external access ladders, cable ladders, rescue support frames and platforms worth in excess of £500k.
This is a new export venture for Hutchinson and a first venture for Smulders in sourcing directly from the UK for the Round 3 UK Wind Farm Sector.
After successful audit by Smulders and the Sif Group BV and with Statoil approval, Hutchinson were awarded this prestigious work to enhance an already burgeoning portfolio.
Combined with the required offshore accreditations Smulders identified Hutchinson Engineering as having the existing skill set, experience and knowledge of both quality and safe working expectations for this type of work.
Smulders auditors also felt that HEL Senior Management displayed the necessary drive to succeed and were prepared to initiate further recommended in house training to guarantee success.
Smulders saw merit in the use of tried and tested Hutchinson production control and management systems – drawn from existing markets in the Onshore Renewables, Oil & Gas and Telecommunications sectors. This was seen as a pre requisite to fit well to the Smulders project discipline used successfully on Dudgeon and other OWF Projects.
Regular weekly loaded sets now leave Widnes for direct delivery to either Arendonk or Hoboken Yards in Belgium. Hutchinson also engages its usual subcontractors, such as galvanisers Pillar Wedge, for this contact.
To supplement continued in house training Hutchinson has been able to recruit additional staff and operatives to deliver this Project and with new quayside facilities now available is hopeful of further work as an expanding UK supplier to Smulders.
