Nuclear-Grade Stillages for Hinkley Point C
Working in close collaboration with Amentum, Hutchinson Engineering manufactured specialist nuclear-grade stillages to support Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB GenCo) at Hinkley Point C.
Client
Amentum provides advanced engineering, inspection, and project support services across highly regulated sectors, including nuclear new build, where safety, quality, and compliance are critical.
Project Overview
Hutchinson was appointed to manufacture a set of specialist stillages designed to meet the stringent quality, traceability, and safety requirements associated with nuclear projects. The project supported a new nuclear power station being developed and operated by Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB GenCo) at Hinkley Point C, one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes.
On completion of testing,
Craig Milne of Amentum commented:
Amentum parties present were all in agreement that the stillages were very well fabricated and definitely fit for purpose, and the Factory Acceptance Test was conducted well.
Manufactured to exacting standards
Hutchinson worked closely with Amentum’s projects team to deliver stillages meeting stringent nuclear quality requirements. Weld Procedure Specifications were supplied to demonstrate welder certification to ISO 9606, with welding procedures qualified in accordance with BS EN ISO 15614-1.
Factory Acceptance Testing was completed on site, including overhead crane movements and proof load testing, enabling the client to witness performance first-hand. All coating was completed in-house within environmentally controlled booths and overseen by Hutchinson’s ICorr Level 3 coating inspector, ensuring full compliance and quality assurance throughout.
