Business Development Manager
Location: Widnes, Cheshire
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 per year. Full-Time, permanent.
Hours: Hours of work are based on a 38 hour week, Monday to Friday, but the role will require an element of flexibility.

Purpose of Role:
Key Objectives of the Role:
The BDM is to represent the business in the development of new and existing Sales Opportunities and Customer Relationships, in order to ensure the Strategic Forecasts of the business are achieved. This to include aligning marketing resource and efforts towards these objectives, and in delivery of the business Vision and Strategy.
Successful delivery of the role will require:
- External Links – Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with major customers, relevant government departments and agencies, local authorities, key decision-makers and other stakeholders generally, to exchange information and views and to ensure that the company is providing the appropriate range and quality of services.This to include collaboratively working with other stakeholders within targeted sectors to ensure maximum opportunities for the business.
- Market Plans – To develop and maintain Market-Plans capable of expanding the companies interests and achieving the strategic aims.This to include the presentation of Market Plans to the SLT and the associated development of actions and targets.
- Sales Opportunity Strategy – Identifying new business opportunities, including new markets, new clients, new partnerships or new products and services, and the ensure other business teams are aligned with the market requirements.
- Sales Pipeline Management – To coordinate other business teams in the successful development and maintenance of Sales Pipeline opportunities, to facilitate the business in managing sales forecast and the associated business capabilities and requirements.
Role will requirements continued:
- Account Management – To provide a coordination function and to assist the business in the successful maintenance of Account Plans as activity moves to the Project Delivery teams.
- Contract Negotiations – To assist the MD and BD-Team in representing the company in negotiations with customers, suppliers, government departments and other key contacts to secure for it the most effective contract terms
- Client Relations – To take the lead in developing client relationships.
- Marketing – To assist in the development of strategies to ensure the alignment of marketing materials, online activity, exhibitions and the like with sales and market strategies.This to include coordination with other business teams and external resource in the development of marketing content.
- SLT Alignment – To develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the SLT in order to facilitate the job role.This to include engagement with the business improvement activities and initiatives.

The BDM role should provide the following to the business:
- Sales volumes aligned to business forecast.
- An informed customer- base and market penetration aligned to business capabilities.
- A positive and improving external image ahead of our competition.
- Business Teams aligned with BD activity, target and requirements.
- A robust and successful sales pipeline with the ability to identify medium and long-term opportunities.
Additional Role Information:
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- Appropriate experience in a similar role and / or formal Business Development focused qualification.
- The ability to understand the business production capabilities and technical parameters.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and personal drive, enabling both self-directed activity and feedback to the BD-Team.During the selection process, a DISC personality-profiling assessment may be carried out.
- The ability to utilise appropriate IT systems and software.
- Hours of work are based on a 38hour week, Monday to Friday, but the role will require an element of flexibility, and a willingness to travel nationally and work irregular hours as required.
- The role is a hybrid of office-based activity at our Widnes head-office (WA8 8PT), and remote-working.Final details to be confirmed with the successful candidate.
- The annual holiday entitlement is 21 days, plus Public Holidays.
- A 3-month trial period will be required for the role.
- Hutchinson operate a profit-share bonus scheme across all business areas.The BDM would typically earn a bonus of 10% to 20% of Salary.
