Junior Engineer

Location: Widnes, Cheshire
Salary: £30,000 – £34,000 a year  Permanent, Graduate, Full-time
Shift and schedule: 40 hours a week (8:00 to 16:30 Monday to Friday)
Start Date: Feb/March 2026
Holidays: 25 days, plus Public Holidays.

Job Description

We seek a recent graduate engineer to help expand our existing design team of four structural/mechanical engineers and four designers.

The role will primarily consist of conducting strength of material calculations for the design of steel masts and their supporting foundations. This includes frequency, fatigue and connections calculations.

At Hutchinson you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and see projects through from concept to creation. Structured training and mentorship will be provided to assist in achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team but also be capable of using their own initiative. What we’re looking for:

  • A degree (BEng, MSc + BEng or MEng) in either Civil, Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Affinity to a relevant institution (ICE, IMechE or IStructE) and has a desire to work towards achieving Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Comfortable in undertaking hand calculations and using analysis and design software (experience with any of the following is advantageous but not essential as training will be provided: STAAD, MasterSeries, IDEA StatiCa or SolidWorks).
  • If not a British resident, the candidate must already hold a valid United Kingdom work permit.
