Meet Neil Gabbitas

Turning ideas into reality, manufacturing the future

Since joining Hutchinson in 2002, I’ve advanced to the role of Senior Design Draughtsman. I design complex structures for diverse sectors like telecommunications, renewables, oil & gas, rail, and more recently the nuclear industry. My job is to turn client ideas into precise designs, covering everything from the initial concept to the detailed specifications needed for production. Hutchinson’s supportive culture has empowered me to continuously hone my interpersonal skills and grow professionally. They’ve always encouraged my pursuit of ongoing education, helping me stay updated with the latest CAD software, manufacturing methodologies, and the fast-paced advancements in telecommunications technology.

Delivering unmatched performance and value
Starting with a clear understanding of a client’s vision, every phase in a project is crucial, from choosing the right materials to developing prototypes. Once we secure approval on a design, my focus shifts to crafting detailed documentation, ensuring both our clients and in-house manufacturing teams have all the information they need. Effective communication is paramount; it ensures everyone involved is aligned on the product’s function and aesthetics. In partnership with our dedicated team of Structural Engineers and under the keen oversight of our Technical Manager, we strive to deliver products that not only adhere to strict standards but also offer unmatched performance and value.
Considering a Career in Design?
Being a designer in today’s fast-paced world requires more than just proficiency in CAD software. While technical skills are vital, it’s equally important to comprehend the client’s requirements fully and align them with the practicalities of manufacturing. Designs often need to mediate between a client’s aspirations and the realities of production. To aspiring designers, my advice is to embrace both aspects: immerse yourself in the tools of the trade, but also develop a keen understanding of your industry’s dynamics and be prepared for compromises that lead to better solutions.
