Operations Manager
Location: Widnes, Cheshire
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 per year. Full-Time, permanent.
Hours: Hours of work are based on a 38 hour week, Monday to Friday, but the role will require an element of flexibility.
Closing date: TBC
Holidays: 21 days, plus Public Holidays.

Role Summary
The Operations Manager reports to the MD and is required to manage and control all business production operations aligned to project requirements and business strategy. This activity to be completed in accordance with the business plans agreed by the BoD to ensure that business operational goals and objectives are met and aligned to the business strategy as defined within the X-Matrix.
To provide clarity, the OM will:
Production Activities – Direct and control all internal operational activities to ensure that project requirements are adequately understood and that associated production requirements are met at all times. The Production Manager and Production Team Leaders will report to the OM. The OM will chair the weekly Production Meetings.
Project Kick-Off – Attend Kick-Off Stage 1 and Stage 2 meetings to ensure all parties have a clear understanding of project requirements and that all questions raised at KO1 are resolved prior to Release for Manufacture. The OM will control the Release for Manufacture gate at end of the KO2 process. KO1 meetings are convened by the PM, and KO2 by the OM based on a timeline defined by the project requirements.
Capacity Planning – To assist PM and TLs in establishing clear Production capacity and capability models for the Production Teams and activities against which performance can be tracked and scenario-modelling carried out.
Strategic Activities- Contribute to the development of the company’s business strategic goals, including ownership of Production related strategic Projects, and associated reporting and tracking activities.
Operation Development – Assist the business decision making on all issues relating to operational functions and keep abreast of the latest developments to ensure that the Company maintains its competitive position.
Briefing Cycle – ensure that the Briefing Cycle for production activities is maintained at Team and Cell levels, and to support the Production Teams in the Directors Briefing activities. This will create routine, control, challenge and push for sustained performance and improvement across the function.
Team Leader Alignment – Maintain an effective working relationship with all Team Leaders to ensure that there is effective co-ordination of all company operational activities in support of business and project objectives.
Production Team Leader Development – To manage Production Team Leaders, focussing on personal development, training, task allocation, Team development and capabilities.
Cell Layer Development – To support the TLs in the successful development of the Production Cell layer, including Cell Leader capabilities and Cell planning, tracking and improvement activities.
Compliance – Regularly review production operations to ensure that activities meet required standards, and that appropriate policies and procedures are maintained. Direct and implement changes where necessary. These to include Production, Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety, and Product Compliance requirements.
Process Controls – Develop and implement all necessary policies and procedures to facilitate the effective completion of Production activities to time and within budget.
Cost Control – Maintain an overview of production cost control through management of the Target Cost system.
Alignment with Production Specialisms – To ensure production operations interface with the business specialist for Welding Compliance, Coating, Quality and EHS.
Quality – Maintain an overview of the Improvement Systems (Corrective Actions and KPI-Diary) alongside the QM and IM and ensure that agreed actions are successfully completed and required process changes implemented to ensure improvements are embedded.
Improvement Initiatives – Development, planning, delivery and reporting of business improvement initiatives.

- Maintenance of Operational capabilities aligned to business needs and strategy.
- On-Time Production Activity.
- On-Quality Production Activity.
- Production resource aligned to business needs and strategy.
- Confidence in the availability of Production capacity, resources and equipment and the ability to meet project production requirements.
- Successful planning, tracking and improvement functions within Production Teams, with performance evidenced on the Team Dash-Boards.
- A successful operational Cell-Level Layer within Production Teams.
